Meeka safely delivered six beautiful puppies on 21/5/09. Three of those puppies will be staying here and three have now gone to their new homes. They are getting really big now! Here are a few recent photos. Please take the time to scroll down the page and read about owning huskies, the pro's and con's! Many huskies end up in welfare when they are bought on impulse without their owners doing their research first.

Here are the pups at five weeks old exploring the garden.

The photos below show the pups when they were 12 days old, most of the puppies had opened their eyes and begun to push themselves up on to all four legs to move around.

The litter was a result of the mating that took place between Meeka (Solar Ice Princess) and Diesel (Melodor Arctic Thunder of Anakusak). Please click here for their pedigree.

              Meeka                                                         Diesel

Meeka has a wonderful temperment, a good working attitude with boundless energy and enthusiasm and nice conformation that has been tested in the show ring. Because we are so happy with Meeka we decided that when we next added to our pack we would like to breed a litter combining her good qualities with exceptional qualities in a stud dog to give us all the characteristics we are looking for: a fantastic temperment and dogs capable of performing well both in harness and in the show ring.

As we bred to keep from the litter it was very important that we chose the right sire and Diesel is a fantastic boy.  Laid back and affectionate he loves the show ring and has a good working attitude. He is father to our 4 younger pack members and we are extremely happy with all four of the pups temperments. Diesel has passed on his working attitude to his pups and Maverick and Demon are already leading a team! We believe they will do very well next season. In the show ring Ranger and Demon are showing great promise with Demon taking first place and best puppy in breed in his first ever show! Diesel has all the qualities we are looking for and his laid back nature will compliment Meeka well  As we have already seen him pass these qualities on to his pups we are very happy with our choice of stud.

If you have come to this page because you are thinking you would like your own husky pup there are some things you need to bear in mind first! Many huskies end up looking for new homes because people don't do enough research first. Three of our pack members previously lived elsewhere and many more are still looking for their forever homes. You can find out more about rehoming a husky here.

First I'll start with the good points. The things we love about huskies and the reason that despite the minus points we still wouldn't change them for the world!

Huskies are friendly, affectionate dogs without being fawning. They get on well with everyone and are wonderful with children. Their gregarious nature makes them fantastic companions and great fun to have around.

Healthy, robust and athletic they are youthful dogs, staying fit and active until 14 or even 16 years old and have relatively few health problems. They are by nature easy going, intelligent and forgiving and their body language is honest- a husky says what he means!

Huskies are clean and have very little doggy smell about them and some people who are allergic to dogs may be able to tolerate husky fur. They are also fairly quiet dogs and they don't often bark (if you can forgive the odd howl!) making them easy dogs to live with.

Grooming and feeding are also pretty straight forward and huskies require less food than most dogs of their size.

Now onto the other aspects!

Huskies are pack animals, they thrive on company whether it is human or canine (don't trust them with any small fluffy pets though!) and are miserable when lonely. If you don't have the time to make them part of your family a husky isn't the dog for you. Huskies are wonderfully sociable animals, easy going and great company but this also means they love anyone and everyone, whether it is your family, friends or someone who is breaking in to your house... a husky is not a guard dog or even a one man dog!

Although intelligent, huskies have a mind of their own and a stubborn streak. While this was an advantage to the musher who needed his dogs to take the right trail and not obey blindly, in everyday life it can mean quite a battle of wills! This means that recall cannot be trusted. While it is a great skill to teach, a husky decides for himself if he wants to return! Couple this with a strong desire to run as far and fast as he can and a high prey drive you begin to understand why the golden rule of husky ownership is that exercise MUST be done ON LEAD. Don't be fooled into thinking yours is different, it only takes a second to decide to chase a rabbit into the path of a car. Why risk it? Huskies need plenty of exercise too which means you will need to think of ways to do this safely. This may mean walking, jogging, cani-x, cycling, scootering or working your husky with a rig. Be warned it is great fun and hugely addictive!! Enclosed gardens/exercise areas are also a must, 6 foot fences usually being enough. They are great escape artists and will amaze you by doing what you least expect.

Are you houseproud? Could you cope with:

*The shedding? A husky will blow his undercoat a few times a year, easily filling a bag a day with hair!

*The digging? Ours LOVE to dig, not little holes but huge craters across the garden, big enough to lie in and keep cool in the summer, to discover where you planted all those pretty bulbs and check if they are edible... or just for the fun of it. Whether it is outside in the garden or inside in the houseplants they love to dig....

*The mischief? Siberians can make their own entertainment, a young or bored husky will find something to do... that might be stripping your wallpaper, chewing through wires...or the table, ripping up the floor... some also like to steal food (we even have one who can open the high kitchen cupboards!) they aren't fussy. You will however find you are cleaning up the results after. Huskies can have very delicate digestions and need correct feeding. Some pictures of what a husky can do are found here!
