Working

The Siberian Husky was origionally the winter sled dog of the Chukchi people of Siberia and was expected to be able to carry a moderate load, quickly over long distances. They are of medium size with a double coat to help them cope with arctic conditions and were originally selected for their gentle, unaggressive nature as they were not only pack dogs but playmates for the children and hot water bottles at night! Here in the UK we don't have access to long trails and so most of our rallies are sprint races over 3-5 miles and take place using a rig (as can be seen below) rather than a sled.

The siberian husky is an active, energetic breed that loves to do what they were bred for, which is one of the reasons we work our dogs in harness and take part in sled dog rallies. The other reason is that we enjoy it as much as the dogs! There are many ways to exercise a siberian husky if you don't have a rig; there are dog scooters , bikejorring or walkydog attachments for bikes, cani-x, backpacking, and all are great fun!
